Ruth’s research consists in the evaluation a novel fluid known as molten glass. This fluid has the capability to reach very high temperatures (up to 1200ºC) without experiencing chemical decomposition. There is a great potential for this fluid to be used in solar thermal power plants, manufacturing facilities, etc due to its liquid at high temperatures. One main challenge of this fluid is its high viscosity which requires a proper treatment when calculating important heat transfer parameters.
Ruth is currently modelling this molten glass in a solar power plant using Matlab using an explicit finite difference method. She is also using an exponential function to resemble the behavior of the fluid’s viscosity with increasing temperature.
Ruth likes to practice martial arts, dance and travel abroad in her spare time.
